Steven Johanknecht Apartment

When asked Steven Johanknecht defends the benefits of living in an apartment. According to the designer apartments are efficient and provide a different relationship with the landscape. That’s because your apartment has panoramic views of the San Gabriel Mountains and the downtown Los Angeles skyline.

Steven Johanknecht’s world hits many of the same notes found at his companion’s home. It consists of a color-saturated bedroom, a generous built-in sofa bed surrounded by books and examples of work by Allen, Silverman, Pogue and other frequent Commune contributors. The huge gold-framed painting of a shipwreck on Long Island that commands the living room was a gift from Johanknecht’s grandmother.

According to the designer, his apartment is his Californian version of a modernist apartment. There are articles from the mid-century, bathed in the light and colors of the Los Angeles landscape.

Of course, everything in Johanknecht and Alonso’s apartments really seems to have been handpicked. Asked about the specific criteria for the selection of materials, colors, works of art, furniture present in his apartments, Alonso says that the criterion is to have no criteria, believing that articles that really like always end up working with the rest of the decoration.
