Lara Bohinc: The Curves and Spherical Shapes Inspiring Designer
The Slovenian designer, who now lives in London, founded Bohinc Studio in 2016. Lara is known for designing metal furniture and lighting pieces that combine narrow and stretched lines with feminine curves. In addition, Bohinc also designs glass and ceramic objects and produced a collection of rugs, tapestries, and pillows for the Swedish company Kasthall.
Lara Bohinc has a degree in Industrial Design at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design by the University of Ljubljana, and when she moved to London she studied Metallurgy and Jewelry at the Royal College of Art, learning to manufacture large and small pieces, from gold to steel.
Metal is the main material used by the designer Lara Bohinc to produce her collections. According to the designer, her affinity with metal is that it is malleable and at the same time, it´s firm and durable. In addition to the fact that you can melt and shape it again, indefinitely. It is a definitive sustainable material.
About Lara Bohinc’s Collections
One of Lara Bohinc’s collections that addresses the celestial theme features tables and chairs with metal frames, composed with tubular and spherical shapes. With an Art Deco style, the chairs designed by Lara Bohinc contrast with their cylindrical and spherical cushions.
The designer Lara Bohinc is known worldwide for producing independent, non-seasonal and fashion-oriented pieces. Her Urushi collection, for example, is made up with boxes formed by intersecting geometric solids, developed with the century-old Urushi lacquer technique and produced in Japan.
In addition to metal, Lara Bohinc also works with materials such as marble and ceramics. Her Lunar collection with marble furniture and accessories presents strong and dynamic shapes, with metal details and a modern design.
Currently, Lara Bohinc plans to showcase her new furniture during Milan Design Week. And she also intends to start her career in the world of interior design. Starting from designing her own studio that will be done in a five-story Victorian house in Camden Town, London. The idea is that the studio will be on the ground floor and the floors above will be used for showrooms and living rooms.
